Apple shipping new Intel-based iMacs
Apple shipping new Intel-based iMacs January 19, 2006 - Linknet Product NewsOne of the announcements at MacWorld Expo in San Francisco the past week was the release of Apple's newest Intel-based iMacs. This release has been anticipated for some time, but the new systems are shipping sooner than expected. --------- Check out California Internet Traffic School --------- For years Apple has resisted moving to Intel processors, and has stuck with Motorola chips. This served to differentiate Apple PCs from the Windows/Intel competition, and although the Motorola PowerPC chips were touted as having some advantages, the price difference of the much more widely-used Intel cpus finally caught up with them. Four models are available, all of them built around Intel's Core Duo processors and running Mac OS X. The four machines -- two desktops and two notebooks -- all feature built in video camera, SuperDrive for DVD burning, up to 2GB RAM, hard drives as large as 500GB, onboard networking and wireless. Apple has captured a bit of PC market share as an echo effect from their very successful ipods. This historic move to Intel processors is expected to make the iMac even more competitive.
