As any good poker player knows, being predictable is a death sentence. A tell has developed if you only use one or two different plays. When you have a tell, the other players will know what you are going to do and possibly what kind of hand you are holding.

Playing aggressively is known to be a key to success. However, playing aggressively every time also leads to opponents knowing that you are bluffing. An aggressive play is when a player bets and raises when they have a bad hand.

An aggressive player bets forcefully on his first two cards and the flop. Being as the hand usually has to improve with the turn and the river cards; an aggressive player has to know that he can win. Also, aggressive players might be bluffing as advertisement for future hands incase he gets a higher-ranking hand later, he will sacrifice with a losing hand.

This is also known as bluffing, but bluffing has other characteristics too. The person who is bluffing is trying to get the other players to fold because his has is actually a losing hand. This is called a pure-bluff and is often successful.

A semi-bluff is when a player bets aggressively upon only seeing the hole cards. This is called a semi-bluff because there is a chance that his hand might improve. In any case, if the semi-bluff works and the other players fold, or if they do not fold and the flop improve his hand, the player will win the pot.

When a player checks on a hand until after another player bets, it is called the check-raise play. Once the other players have bet, the deceiver will then raise that bet. His play is to get the other players to think he has a worse hand than he actually does so that he can get them to raise the pot.

Being a deceptive play, the check-raise is a double edged sword. The check-raise play causes the player to allow the other players a chance to improve upon their hand whereas if he had just bet in the first place, it is possible that the other players would have folded guaranteeing his win. Even though having the players know you might have a stronger hand is not a good thing, it could help in bluffing.

A steal is a form of bluffing even though it doesn’t allow the game to go past the ante stage. If a few players have already folded, the steal player will raise the ante. This is usually reserved for a point in the game when the antes are rather high, as it wouldn’t win the player much money at the beginning of the game.

A drawing play is a normal strategy for poker players. Drawing plays are when the player is trying to create a hand from the cards in the window. This usually only works if the other players do not have a made hand, which is an already set hand from the hole and the flop.

Raising in order to make all but one player fold is called an isolation play. The player with many chips targets the player with the fewest chips in this play. Depending upon the luck of the draw, this play may take one try or a couple.

Keeping the opponents from predicting your plays, these strategies should be used together and consistently. Having tells results in early elimination. You must hide your tells from the other players by being unpredictable.

If you weren’t already aware, Photoshop has these great features called Actions. Actions can be used for many things, including doing the mundane tasks you don’t feel like doing, creating amazing effects, and maximizing productivity.

I only just discovered the wonder of Batch Processing. I’m dedicated and detail oriented, but sitting in front of the computer adjusting the Hue/Saturation for the countless number of photos taken at my son’s first birthday was simply out of the question. I did find a more than happy solution in Batch Processing.

When you’re creating an action you need it to do one thing: Something. In my case, I needed to change the Hue/Saturation for 75+ images from blue to my “trademark” teal. Maybe you need an action for a different purpose, but humor me and tell yourself, “Hey, I need to make my image the same color as hers!” Next, you’ll need something to work on. Get a small image, like an icon, preferably the one I’m using for this tutorial.

Now go to Window > Actions and make sure it is checked. If it is, you should see a tab in the Layers Palette labeled, of course, Actions.

Click on the arrow button to enter the Actions menu and then “new Set.” This will create a folder for your newly created action (the folder is not mandatory, but it does help with organization.)

Now go back to the Actions menu and choose “New Action.” Have an idea of the steps you’ll need to take and their order before recording an action. Since this is a fairly simple action, you will master this in no time at all.

Next comes recording. Begin by clicking on the little circle icon in between the square and the triangle at the bottom of the palette. Once that is selected everything you do in Photoshop will be recorded until the end of action. If you do the wrong step no worries, simply stop the action by clicking the square icon and return to your last step.

For our action, the first thing we need to do is change the Mode of the image to RGB, since .gif files are saved in Index mode which don’t take too kindly to colorization. So with the action recording, go to Image > Mode > RGB.

Next, we’ll have to strip the image of it’s current color to make adding our (my) own color easier to apply, so go to Image > Adjustment > Desaturate.

You should see a naked grey image and so we need to add some color. Make sure your action is still recording and go to Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation. It helps to have the settings for color saved in a .ahu (Hue/Saturation) file so all you have to do is click Load and select Teal.ahu. If you don’t have a file saved you can simply use the sliders.

Finally, we save it for the web. Check that your action is still recording and go to File > Save For the Web and set your file type and optimization settings. I use the customary GIF settings. Choose the destination directory and save.

You can now stop recording because your Action is complete. Now we will perform a Batch Process to put your Action into effect. This will take all the images in a specified directory and incorporate the changes recorded in the Action.

Go to File > Automate > Batch and make sure the name of the Action Set you just created is in the first dropdown list and the name of the Action is in the second. Set the third dropdown box (next to Source) to Folder and use the Choose button to find your duplicated or created folder of images. For destination, you can either leave it set to it’s default “None” to have the action applied and saved in the source folder, or save the “actionized” images into a separate folder. Once you have everything configured to your liking, click OK.

Now you can sit back and watch your images color themselves because you’re using Actions and Batch Processing to do your tedious work.

The Internet Marketing world received what seemed like very good news: as of July 2008, the AdWords Keyword Tool is showing actual search volumes instead of shaded green bars.

I have received a lot of emails from newsletters I subscribe to, informing me of the great change. One of the senders was excited enough to conclude: “it probably spells the end for services like Wordtracker.” A famous guru could not hide his joy: “Holy cow! Talk about shaking up the planet!”

The famous keyword research guru, Jim Morris, dedicated a post on his blog (nichbot.com) to the Keyword Tool revolution: “All of a sudden - there is no longer any confusion about how many times people are searching for a certain keyword phrase on Google.com.”

Mr. Morris included in his post a screenshot of 8 results the Tool returned when he had asked for keyword suggestions for the term “blogging.” Here they are: blogging, blogs, blog, blogging software, radio blog, pink is the new blog, blog search, bad girls blog. Three columns follow the keywords list: Advertiser Competition, Approx Search Volume for last month, and Approx Average Search Volume.

Prior to July 2008, these 3 columns showed a shaded green bar, which somehow represented the volumes, i.e. if the bar was fully shaded it must have indicated very high volume; an empty bar indicated no competition etc. Now, the columns of search volume include actual numbers, while the Advertiser Competition column still shows shaded bars.

I went through the suggestions Jim Morris got for “blogging” and checked a couple of them. For instance, the Advertiser Competition bar next to “radio blog” is painted 3/4 green. Looks like quite a lot of bidders on this keyword, doesn’t it? One expects to find a lot of ads when “radio blog” is searched. Well, not necessarily. There is not even one ad for “radio blog” (at least there were none on 7/8/2008, when the blog was published and I conducted my search). Not in the U.S. nor in the UK or Canada.

The next keyword phrase I checked was “bad girls blog.” The mysterious bar is 50% green, representing more than light competition (Or does it? Nobody knows what it actually represents. The question is, why is it a secret? Why doesn’t Google tell its customers the exact volume of competition?) Anyway, in the case of “bad girls blog,” again, there is not even one ad in the English speaking countries.

It wouldn’t be so bad if Google were just a search engine. But Google charges millions of people billions of dollars for AdWords, and a smart advertiser has to rely on the data that Google gives them to make intelligent decisions regarding his/her advertising campaign. If these data are extremely inaccurate, there is a good chance that most advertisers who use AdWords are pouring a fortune into Google’s pockets to no avail.

Targeting Your Audience: By this we mean that exactly the type of woman (or man) you are looking for should “select themselves” by reading your personal ad. In other words, you want to not only attract the right respondent, but to also deselect the wrong ones.

Reader Benefits: By this we mean “what’s in it for the reader?” In other words, why should the reader answer your ad - what’s the benefit of communicating with you and getting to know you better?

Please keep in mind the difference between “features” and “benefits.” Your features are your tangible qualities (for example, your height, hair color, and so on) while your “benefits” are your intangible qualities like “your warm personality.”

At the end of every effectively written ad, you’ll read instructions on what to do next! In other words, since you’re wanting a reply to your ad, go right ahead and ask for one!

An accredited home schooling program will have very comprehensive curriculum and provide all you need to let your kid complete the k-12 education.

Though there are many respected accredited home schooling programs, here, we will cover Saxon, Center for Learning and Curriculum Associates.

Perhaps one of the more reputable and well-known accredited home schooling programs comes from Saxon. Saxon is a part of Harcourt Achieve, a publisher that provides a variety of educational materials across various subjects.

Saxon focuses on math, phonics and early child learning. Saxon’s math texts is well liked by many home schoolers. Math is an area that require expert instruction. If the parents do not have a math background, Saxon may be the right math home school program for your child.

If you are looking for excellent programs in English, Language Arts, Drama and Social Studies, including religious materials, then the Center for Learning is a great choice.

And you have Curriculum Associates, another favorite among the various home schooling programs. Curriculum Associates provides test preparation materials, study skills and curriculum assessment.

As I mentioned before, most parents will not stick to any one of the home schooling programs. They will choose Reading from this publisher and Math from the other one. They often find what they like best through experimentation or from what their friends recommend through experience.
