For Quarter Horse and other breed shows, Showmanship is a class where every extra bit of polish can set you apart. The current trend is to show on a drape, which means your horse is not cued by the shank or chain, but by your body language.

One of the easiest things to train your horse to do is back up. I had issues with my mare when I started her in Showmanship was a correct and energetic back. I used a modified Natural Horsemanship method to create a relaxed, correct and crisp back.

In order to achieve a good back you will need to spend at least 5 minutes a day at least 3 or 4 times a week for probably a month. At first all you are trying to achieve is to give your horse the understanding that when you are in place and move towards them that they need to match the speed that you are moving in reverse.

I use a long lead rope or a lunge line to start. DO NOT use a chain, just snap the lead under your horse’s chin and stand in front of your horse to the side of them so you are not directly in front. At first I was about 7-8 feet away when I started.

Simply wiggle the rope and start walking towards your horse, I make a ‘ssssssss’ sound. As I got closer the wiggle got bigger and if she did not move backward by the time I was within 3 feet I would throw my hands up and stomp. At this your horse should run backward. Make sure to follow the horse but then stop and give them a release by you stopping your forward motion at them and they slowly stop backing and will then stand.

Give praise and walk them forward and repeat. Soon anytime you wiggle the rope they will begin walking backward just from that cue. If they are not moving fast enough then try a simple stomp or just lift your left arm as you walk to them – the point is DO NOT allow your horse to have no consequences from not responding. Make them understand when you ask to back and they ignore you that there WILL be an action.

Until your horse is really comfortable ignore their body position, but as they get more comfortable they should begin backing straight and their body language should be quiet. Remember it is important to not jerk, pull, hit or do anything to make a back anything but a release from the pressure of your body language.

Once they get comfortable you can them start working towards backing not just in straight lines but in turns as well. Your final product will be a crisp back with a relaxed horse and no visible cue. You will definitely be adding to the difficulty of your pattern and should help elevate your overall score,

The best part of this is that the technique can be used for many purposes – I use it now for even the foals to teach them when the rope wiggles that they need to back from the pressure. It comes in handy.

I am always talking about my issue with the major pet food companies and what they put in pet food. My parents laughed at my crusade against regular pet food until one of their cats got sick and was not able to eat dry. I gave them some good options of food and they chose Blue Buffalo Spa Select Tender Turkey & Chicken Entree. After a week my Mom called me and told me that both cat’s loved the food and their dandruff was gone.

Within a month their coats were shining and the cat that was sick had gained back some weight and their overweight cat lost weight. The sick cat had also began actually eating with enthusiasm too.

She had to admit that the healthy cat food made a difference. I did act like a good daughter and not say I told you so.

I just wish everyone would try it for themselves. I found a few books that have some great information, as always their are always two sides to the story so do your own research. These books all are discussing healthy dog food but cat owners can still get great information.

And as an update, the cats are all eating happily now - hopefully they will give me at least six months of peace!

In the quest to find a new food we finally picked a food. Okay I finally received a complete approval from Abbeylocks and the Three Black (and White) Bears.

I ordered three options for the trial. I was hoping that one would work and was so excited when my package got to the house. The first food we tried was Castor & Pollux Ultramix Indoor Feline Canned and the three boys (Slakk, Spudd and Copy) all liked it but Abbey refused to eat it. I decided to wait a day to try the next food choice.

Copy was still refusing to eat raw so he was VERY hungry for our next option. So we then tried
Newman’s Own Organics Canned Cat Food Chicken & Rice the good news was that all of the cat’s gobbled it up, the bad news was Mommy did not do her homework and the carbohydrate % was over 10% as fed.

With Slakk’s well documented Feline Diabetes I really try to keep him under 8% carbohydrates as fed ad for some reason I chose a can with rice in it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this food choice for a healthy cat or even some diabetic cats, but Slakk’s blood sugar will elevate.

Just to check I tested him (yes you can home test a diabetic cat just like human diabetics do) and his bloog sugar was in the 80s. His normal rate is in the 50-70 range so yes even one small can of a higher carb food will cause him issues.

In fact it is the reason Sam is not allowed any dry food because if Slakk gets into it his blood sugar skyrockets. After three years in remission and as he ages it is more important than ever to keep him in remission. His immune system is already compromised from the ravages of the disease so I have to be very careful.

So sadly we had to say no to the Newmans. I was down to my third choice, Evanger’s Canned Cat Food - Organic Chicken. I set the food down and SUCCESS!

All of the cat’s scarfed it down and then went and laid down and took a bath. In my cat world that is a great sign. So now everyone but Copy is getting their normal raw plus a tiny bit of Evanger’s and Copy got just the Evanger’s.

Our world is now at peace. Whew

My dog Sam is a great dog but sadly, he dangles at the bottom of the food chain.. We got Sam twelve years ago at a rescue and were told he was a Beagle cross. I think a Beagle crossed in front of him because never looked like a Beagle. He is a rare breed dog, Carolina Dog or Dixie Dingo. They are found in the southeastern United States and are actual wild dogs He is a wonderful, patient dog who never complains when the cats steal his food or lay on his beds…or on him.

As he gets older he has slowed down and gets really stiff if not using a good pet bed. His bed in my office has started to lose the firmness he needs and he has been stiff when waking up so last weekend I went online and searched for a new bed.

Since it is in a part of the house viewable to anyone who walks in, I wanted it to be not only comfortable for him, but stylish for me. We run our business out of our home so I have customers and business associates in the house and I do not want or need a smelly rumpled pet bed in my office. Some people don’t like animals – amazing I know. I like my home to be smell free and not have pet accessory eyesores. And I found it - Natural Rhino Wicker Pet Bed a great natural pet product and a great price. sweet!

I was so happy when it got here on Friday, it matches my furniture perfectly and is such high quality. Sam immediately put his claim on it as the cats circled – he is not willing to give up on it. He must really like it.

My friend Heidi was over today and walked by my office and stopped and pointed at it and said, “Where did you get THAT?” I started to laugh and told her I bought it online. She whipped out her phone and saved the information on it. Heidi is one of the top realtors in town and is always bemoaning how turned off people get by seller’s pets.

She was really impressed with the style and how it looked less like a dog bed and more like a piece of furniture. In fact, she liked it so much that she is buying a few to put in with the furniture she leases to her home sellers. That is about the highest seal of approval you can get.

My happiness comes from the look of my graying puppy dog, sprawled out, snoring happily (and loudly) and hopefully keeping the cats away from his bed.

My one-eyed feral brat aka Copy Cat has decided to go on strike against his regular food. Now if I was a one-eyed feral who won’t let anyone touch him despite being a house cat for THREE YEARS I would be happy just to be fed. But he lives in our house so he goes on strike and sits 10 feet away from me and looks pathetic.

So I am on the hunt for food. This happens about once every six months where one of my cats decides it is time for a change. So I pullout my favorite bookmark, Janet and Binky’s Cat Food List. This is a great resource for calories as well as carbohydrates “as fed.” We try to feed food under 8 carbs as fed for Slakk’s blood sugar to stay in the zone.

From Slakk’s Diabetes I learned that the labels on the cans are about worthless so I rely on this list for my information. The rule of thumb for the amount of calories a cat should intake everyday goes something like this:

(13.7 x Optimum weight) +70 = daily calories

My cats are ummm good converters, so they actually stay at around 170 calories per day, sometimes up to 200 but a normal weight 12 pound cat should figure eating around 230 calories per day.

So for some reason I went on a website for commercial cat food – VERY well known brand (no I am not going to name them because they do not deserve the publicity) and they recommend 1 can of their over-processed, slaughter house reject, pesticide filled cans of death, oops I mean cat food per every 2.5 pounds. Doing the math that is 4.8 cans per day…FOR ONE CAT.

After I got up from the floor I looked at the calories – about 435 total, assuming any cat could shove all of that in their mouth in a day (Slakk has offered to try), that is 200 calories OVER the optimal calories – and these are the people telling YOU they understand nutrition and you should trust them?

And then lets do the math, each can of death is $.079 times 5 (because you know you will feed 5 cans not 4.8) equals $3.95 PER DAY. That means in 30 days you would spend $118.68 not including tax, but hey you could forget your gym membership BECAUSE YOUR CAT WOULD BE SO FAT PICKING THEM UP WOULD BE A WORKOUT. If you have four cats like me then you would spend more on cat’s food then groceries

So then I look at a better alternative Evanger’s Canned Cat Food - Organic Chicken 5.5 oz. Can at $1.49 for a 5.5 ounce can. That is approximately the same calorie count as one day’s allotted calories. I feed this sometimes and honestly my big pig cats only get about ¾ of a can because quality calories mean less calories, but to be fair I will use the proper amount. So that equals $44.70 a month a whopping $74 dollar difference IN FAVOR OF A QUALITY PRODUCT.

Amazing huh?

If you really want to see your head explode look at the as fed calories for dry food, one cup equals 350-650 calories – ONE CUP. I will not even discuss the carbs…you know that is bad.

Raise your hand if your idea of feeding your cat is to take a bag of kitty crack and dump it in a self feeder…Don’t worry that was me before Slakk went diabetic. I ask you this - Do you think your cat is only eating what they need or are they gorging on the calorie heavy, carbohydrate-ridden pesticide filled bags of death (yes, related to the over-processed, slaughter house reject, pesticide filled cans of death).

So back to the web, I went to one of the lower calorie, yet highly-publicized dry cat food bags and read that my darlings should eat one cup or 362 calories – yes 150% of the recommended calories for a healthy 12 pound cat. Assuming my cats would self regulate at one cup (yeah sure) the kitty crack would cost a smidge over $1.20 per day.

Well until Slakk’s diabetes went out of remission and I was spending $100 dollars on his insulin alone. But again the cancellation of the gym membership would help out. Until one of the others went on the juice too…

But if you are feeding your cat on the calorie heavy, carbohydrate ridden pesticide filled bag of death or over-processed, slaughter-house reject, pesticide filled cans of death know this. IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT. We have been told that these companies know best and love our pets - well they are loving our pets to DEATH. My husband has banned me from the pet food aisle because I become an evangelist for proper feeding.

Kudos to companies like PETCO.com who have seriously started not only offering, but showcasing healthy alternatives to the cans/bags of death. Baby steps folks, babysteps.

I was in your shoes at one time and it took almost losing my sweet baby Slakk to learn his food was killing him. But now I know better and know feeding healthy is CHEAPER and your cat feels better and your vet bills go down and their coat shine goes UP. And maybe just maybe they will shed some weight.

Commercial dog food can be hazardous to your dog’s overall health. This type of dog food is generally processed food that contains preservatives and additives that you may not want your dog eating. These foods can increase the chances of health problems for you best friend.

A few years back, there was widepsread pet food recalls across the U.S. This incident led to a spike in people wanting to learn how to better protect thier pets by finding dog food recipes and cookbooks. While the reports of tainted pet foods has subsided, the interest in providing a high quality food to your pet hasn’t.

By using some all natural dog food recipes to feed you pet, you can be assured that if another incident happens with the processed dog food, your pet will be safe. Feeding your dog homemade pet food is not has hard or expensive as it sounds. There are several books on the market that shows you how easy it can be.

Most pet owners will agree that the organic dog food is the best food choice for their dog but many are unable to justify the higher cost. A can or bag of premium organic dog food can cost substancially more than it’s regularcan or bag counterpart. Here are some things that you should keep in mind when making your decision.

You get what you pay for. A premium organic brand of dog food will include human grade meat. This means your pet is getting the best meat, the regular brand will include chicken beaks, intestines liver and whatever is scraped up at the bottom of the a slaughter house and ground up and labeled by-product.

Ease of worry. It seems that every day another major pet food company is recalling their food as the wrong additive or too much additive is found in their food and pets are sick. Many times it is too late to save your pet when they are exposed.

Pets feel better, look healthier. Ask anyone who puts their animal on an organic diet and they will tell you their skin looks better, their coat shinier and have increased energy.   Many pet owners will tell you that their pet is healthier. Better health means less trips to the vet which save money in the long run

Any or all of these reasons should give a pet owner plenty of reasons to switch to organic. If another is needed, one just has to think of the ecological benefits. Organic foods have a smaller carbon footprint, they do not harm the planet.

So no matter what reason, superior ingredients, elimination of poisonous chemicals, better health or simply to be more green, pet owners should look closely into organic dog food for their dog.

Rococo art has been a popular look since the 1800’s. Home owners everywhere love the look and the feel of a room that displays this French taste. Although it can be added to any room in your home you may want to consider it in the breakfast nook.

Imagine nibbling on a croissant amid traditional 19th century Rococo fixtures. Now imagine that you can do this without leaving the comfort of your own home. That’s right with these simple design tips you can have breakfast in the Mediterranean every day of the week. No 14 hour plane ride to France required.

Rococo comes from two different terms; French Rocaille and Italian Barocco. French Rocaille refers to an arrangement of stones in a natural pattern. The Italian Barocco refers to Baroque art. This helps modern day art collectors understand why the artists created the look he/she did.

Now it’s time to talk about how you are going to decorate your room. If you want to create a Rococo room you need to choose fixtures and furnishings in light wood such as light oak or white wash. Then you want to choose complimentary fixtures that are bright in color and hard fixtures that display the Rococo design. You may also want to put the same wood on your floor. This will save you money when compared to the stone flooring that was traditionally used in the 19th century in France.

Use accessories that highlight and enhance the twists and curves that are found in nature. Choose accessories that will display a taste of the Mediterranean Sea. This includes wide rounded curves of shells or waves that are accompanies by soft stone and cast iron.

When decorating your room you want to use the following colors combined: yellow, blue, red, white, and pink. Don’t stick to one color but instead combine them together to create the look you are searching for. You want to use these colors from furniture to table runners.

Adding an area rug is a great way to combine all the colors together and achieve the look you are after. You will need to use a hard wood floor or a stone floor to get the complete look. Although this look of stone or wood is great it can make the floor cold so you can add an area rug to make the floor warmer.

Rococo is such a wonderful art to design your room around. Filling your home with classic elements like fixtures, furnishings, and accessories that hint at the beauty of the Mediterranean will brighten your life. This makes Rococo the right design choice for a breakfast nook or any other room of your home. Your room will no longer be just a room. It will be a work of art.

If time were a luxury, I’d do all the necessary maintenance and cleaning in a house in a heartbeat. But, as it happens, I’m a working guy with a lot more priorities than cleaning house. I’m at work up to eight hours a day, add the commute time and the time I need to spend on breaks on top of that, and you’ll see that I really don’t have much time to spend as I used to have when I was younger.

Way back when I was in college, I kept a very clean living area. I was in college, living in a dorm room with a roommate and I took pride that we had the cleanest place in the whole building. As it happens, I couldn’t study if my surrounding space was dirty, so I always made sure that the room was always dirt-free. Even the bathroom was kept as clean as the rest of the room, as my roommate and I frequently cleaned it.

Things are different these days. While I now have my own place to stay in right here in Richmond, my busy career life prevents me from cleaning the place as often as I want to. That said, I still find ways, and perhaps once a month, I turn the place inside out to remove all dirt and grime.

In the home, I find that cleaning the bathroom is the most challenging of all. It’s quite unlike the bathroom in the old dorm room, which I could clean often; I could only clean this bathroom once in a month. Within this time, all sorts of dust, dirt and grime had settled inside the grout, which was unreachable with my scrub brush. It was downright frustrating.

I did what was logical; I called in professional tile and grout cleaners that were advertising around Richmond. I need a place where I can relax and kick back, and if I can’t do it (time constraints or otherwise), I would gladly pay someone else to do it. It’ll be worth every cent, so I can rest at home without a care.

Tin tile products are very diverse in terms of the different patterns and colors they come in. They usually come finished if you buy them directly out of a store while if you order them they usually come unfinished.

These products are typically shipped uncoated to allow custom on-site painting or finishing. Over the years, the limited designs of the past have transformed into countless options that now come in a variety of finishes such as copper, brass, chrome plating, faux tin, whites, mochas, burgundies or bricks, silvers, gold, greens and blues. Now days, these pre-painted pieces that can be found in just about any home regardless of its style.

In addition to the many available colors and finishes, there are also numerous size options to choose from. Tin tiles come any where from 6 patterns up to 4 ft. patterns and possibly larger depending on the provider. The smaller the pattern, the more repetition you see.

The finish itself ultimately depends on your liking whether you choose the common silver or the rarely seen white styrene. Some finishes look better than others when applied to the various patterns. The more colorful the finish the more wild the patterns look so it might be a good idea, in order to maintain a modern look, to test out a finish on a few spare tiles before applying it to all of them.

Some finishes may take longer to finish depending on your likes. If you are looking for a very simple finish and you want it done by the manufacturer, it should only take one to two applications to worst-case scenario, one full day.

Even though some of the more common finishes like plain silver or copper can be very easy to apply to tin tiles, other finishes that are thicker or thinner may take additional coating to fully cover the tile. If and when you are going to be finishing your own tin tiles, speak with a provider first to make sure you are using the proper materials and techniques. As a whole, there are plenty of colors and available finishes to suite even the most unique tastes.

Working with an experienced and highly reputable interior designer is crucial if you want your home to achieve the look you have envisioned. Otherwise, you will be merely building castles in the air. Expect that it is difficult, sometimes impossible to bring to life your visions of a dream house down to the smallest details. Unless you do the decorating yourself or the people you work with, from the interior designer and architect to the plumber, painter and other contractors are mind readers and miracle workers.

Decorating your home, room or any personal space should be a fun task. It should feel like you are embarking on an adventure and not something that is a painful event. However, if you manage to hire the services of the wrong type of interior designer you will end up making this adventure into something you would feel you should have avoided like the plague. So, do your research and take your time to pick your designer carefully.

Whether you are into redecorating a part of the house or the entire place, the important thing is to have a place you can call home. A place you will always look forward to retreating after each day. A relaxing abode after a long day and a place where you can happily spend time with loved ones.

To begin with, you are most likely to find yourself thinking about a friend’s homes that you visited and took an instant liking to. Perhaps, you could think about how to customize those very ideas to suit your space. You will have to look very carefully for a designer who is capable of translating those ideas into drawings that reflect what your space will look like when the interior design is finished. This way you will know before you begin whether or not you will really like the finished home.

As you go through discussing your desires, likes and visions of a new look for your home (or room), don’t forget to include area rugs in your plans. If budget is not a problem, you might want to consider a Persian rug as your main floor decor. It is considered the best kind of rug in the world. Kashmir Valley rugs from India are equally beautiful decors to have. The price of both these superior rugs speaks enough for the top quality materials of silk, wool and cotton. Consult with your interior designer with regard to the best color and pattern of the rug to match the rest of your furnishings.

The Utility Consumers’ Action Network (UCAN) reported on Monday, March 9, 2009, that average phone users are spending far more on long distance service than they, or the regulators, realize. This finding was reported in an article posted on the UCAN website entitled Consumers Overspending on Telecom Bills. In the article, the author summarizes the results of a recent survey conducted by UCAN on 700 “relatively savvy consumers” in the San Diego, California area. The following quote from the report summarizes the conclusions.

According to the survey, long-distance charges have increased on average to 55 cents a minute, and just 8% of land line customers are paying less than 10 cents a minute. The discrepancy between the actual usage charges and what consumers pay is traced to the complex — and often confusing — plans that are used by many consumers.”

The results from this survey suggests that if consumers use prepaid long distance than they could save up to 96.5% on long distance service with no sacrifice to call quality or convenience. This conclusion is based on published rates for the Tel3Advantage prepaid long distance plan. Consumers can use Tel3Advantage without changing their existing phone service provider and it can be used with any kind of telephone. Up to 10 different phones can be included in one account, so, one prepaid plan can be used with an individual’s home, cell and business phones without changing anything. As a result, users could save over 96% on their long distance phone service with no pain. A prepaid calling plan is also a great way to budget and minimize phone expenses since consumers can purchase minutes in small denominations and they can be used over a long period of time. A plan like the flex plan offered by Tel3Advantage has no monthly maintenance fee or other hidden costs so consumers only pay for the minutes they actually use.

The rates charged for calls using the Tel3Advantage flex plan are dirt cheap. Long distance calls to destinations in the USA and Canada cost only 1.9 cents per minute. International rates vary by country but rates to more than 200 countries are less than 10 cents per minute. Compare these rates with those reported in the UCAN study and it is obvious that the average consumer can save a lot of money by changing to prepaid long distance phone service.

Carpet Cleaning Company in NYC  you can trust a comapny that has been cleaning for over 20 years

I would like to take a moment to tell you about myself and
my dedication to the industry of carpet cleaning. My name is Rich Moore and I am
the owner of PowerPro Carpet Cleaning in NYC. I have been cleaning
carpets and upholstery for over 20 years. I have owned 7 carpet cleaning
franchises, I have sub-contracted for department stores, I have sub-contracted
for several major carpet cleaning companies. I have been called to help as an
Expert in the field by several leading companies. I have cleaned over 1.5
million square feet of carpet, I have owned my own carpet cleaning company and
have personally cleaned over 2880 homes and offices. I am 38 years old and I am
married for 15 years to my beautiful wife Pamela and I have 2 children: Daniel
age 11 , Edward age 10.

I have tried very hard to utilize the standard practices
of today’s carpet cleaning , In the past I have cleaned with steam cleaning,
shampoo carpet cleaning, Host carpet cleaning, Capture carpet cleaning, Chem-Dry
carpet cleaning, Post carpet cleaning, Hot water extraction.

All these processes do work well to some extent but also
at the same time have some difficulties making some customers happy. Some of the
problems that I have had in the past were : carpet too wet, carpet smells after
drying, carpet wet for 24 or 48 hours, left over dirty water in customers
toilet, need to get 100’s of gallons of water from customers bathtub, Carpets
get dirty faster after the carpet is cleaned from left over residue, The Padding
gets wet and moldy smells arrive in basements, a strong smell of chemicals,
chemicals not safe for children and pets, Chemical-Clean leaves chemicals in
carpet, Carpet shrinking, carpet buckling, and carpet damage.

I have asked other carpet cleaners if they share this
concern and what they do in situations like this and I really did not like the
answers that I received from other cleaning professionals. The answer that most
other cleaners  gave me was “That  is why we have insurance”, or “what
can we do?”  I thought to myself What can we do? That’s why we have
insurance? In-other words that’s the customers problem. That did NOT
sit right to me. My customers are important to me. I need a better way!

I found a better way, my old and new clients love this new process for
cleaning carpet. Why? I will list only a few reasons here, –1.
Carpets are cleaned with a 100% an all natural cleaning agent (so safe I can
drink it) – 2. Carpet cleaned  and dried in only 3
hours –3. Carpets look like new again
–4.
stained area’s are removed –5.
Traffic area’s are like new and pile has been lifted and restored –6.
A-Allergy Cleaning process. –7. Great results on older and
newer generation carpets and safe for Stainmaster as-well as Scotch-Guarded
Carpets –8. The Bottom line is carpets look and smell new
with the safest cleaning process in the world!

I have have a lot of success, I have worked very hard to find and
perfect this carpet cleaning process that not only gets the carpet cleaner then
any other process but it utilizes ingredients from Mother Nature. A truly win
win situation for everyone for everyone.

My Promise to You:
If you are disappointed in any way, we will clean it again Free .
If you are still not completely 100% SATISFIED AND THRILLED, We (you and I
together) will hire a different carpet cleaning service and if they can do
something that I was not able to do, then I will Not Only Refund Your Money,
I
will also pay the other carpet cleaning service. You
will not be charged. Not one cent. What could be more fair than that?

With the proliferation of cell phones many people question whether the traditional home phone is really necessary any more.  Many households maintain a home phone even though they have a cell phone family plan where all members of the household have a cell phone and individual phone number.  For many, keeping a traditional home phone is a sensible option since it is cheaper than paying for cell phone air time for receiving calls, calling toll free numbers or making local calls.  It may also be necessary for emergencies (911 calls) or for alarm systems or other monitoring devices.  However, traditional long distance phone service is likely not necessary or even an economical option.

In most cases using prepaid long distance is a far cheaper option than using traditional long distance from the phone company.  Prepaid long distance like that offered by Tel3Advantage is very convenient and costs nothing if it is not used.  So consumers only pay for calls they actually make at dirt cheap rates with no taxes or added fees.  Tel3 only charges 1.9 cents per minute for long distance calls made to North American (USA and Canada) destinations.  This means that a consumer can use more than 500 minutes for a mere $10.  Rates are slightly higher for international calls depending on the location called but they are up to 95% cheaper than phone company rates.  It is also easy to open an account and there is nothing to change, it can be used from any phone or with any existing phone service.  An account can be opened in a couple of minutes by visiting the Tel3Advantage website or calling 800 441 0321.
