Executive Fitness Important for Healthy Life

Executive health care takes health care up a large notch.

High quality healthcare is now recognized as health care that has these three characteristics: the use of practice guidelines or standards, the implementation of constantly upgraded quality improvement techniques, and the implementation of outcome determination and management. In summary, quality health care is how well the system of health care providers keeps its members in good health or deals with them them when they are sick.

Quality of Condoms Important in Fight Against STDs

Regular and persistent use of high quality condoms is the best way to stop the spread of STDs (sexually transmitted diseases) according to experts.

Condom quality is very important in the fight against STDs.

Brand name condoms go through extensive quality control tests at every stage of manufacturing. In the US, condoms are electronically tested for holes and defects. Samples are also taken from each lot and visually examined using a water leak test. In this test the samples are filled with 300 ml of water and suspended for 3 minutes.

Also, samples from each lot undergo an Air Inflation Test. The test condoms are filled with air until they reach the bursting point. They typically will hold about 40 liters of air -- the equivalent of 9 gallons of water!

Other samples are checked for size and thickness. Still others are tested to destruction for physical strength, and some are even artificially aged by applying high temperatures to ensure that they will retain their quality well beyond their 5 year product life.

Locked Up Condoms Contributes to HIV Problem in Washington D.C.

Apr 13, 2006 - Linknet Health News - Health officials in the Washington D.C. area say that by locking up condoms so customers have to ask for them, drugs stores are harming the fight against HIV/AIDS.

The CSV chain of drugstores had the highest proportion of locked-up condoms -- 22 out of 50 stores -- and most in poorer areas. Officials say there is a higher incidence of HIV/AIDS in these poorer areas, and making condoms more difficult to get just adds to the problem.

At the same time, conservative and religious groups think barriers to condom purchase are a good thing. The Citizens for Community Values is in favor of the restrictions, and would like them to be even more stringent.

The HIV rate in the Washington district is 10 times the national average, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Estimates are that 5% of the district’s 500,000 residents are HIV-positive, and about 2% have been diagnosed with AIDS.
