The Basics of Keyword Research

by Ashley Lichty

If you want your website found on the web, keyword research is the first step. Well, actually, the first step is deciding what products and services your website will sell and then actually building a website, but in between those two, keyword research has to be conducted. It means finding out what your potential clients are searching for online.

The more terms people use to search, the better you can target your Internet marketing straight to them. It will also help you to better target your search engine optimization techniques. The more general your topic, the longer your keyword research will be. For instance, if you’re only selling fishing rods, your keyword list will be shorter than if you sell the whole shebang: rods, tackle, bait, etc.

Much of keyword research is just old-fashioned brainstorming. You sit down, think about your target audience and get in their frame of mind. Think about the types of things they might type in to find your service, and get yourself a general list of several terms. Once you have that together there are one of two ways to conduct keyword research - this is where the ’secret’ comes in.

Most people will use online tools and programs to conduct keyword research. There are programs that will search several keyword tools on the net. You can also use the individual tools yourself and figure out which works best. Google’s Keyword Tool generates a list of related keywords as well as suggested terms, also giving you an idea of how often they’re searched for.

If you’re doing keyword research in order to target your pay per click campaigns, there is a way to save yourself some time. You may even wind up saving money in the long run. It’s just a matter of experimenting a bit with your search-marketing program of choice.

This technique involves spending a little cash on for your research, but it often yields better results than more traditional keyword research. Just take your first general list of keywords and build your text ad campaign around them in whichever program you use. Most marketing programs allow you to chose a broad or exact keyword match for your terms - choose the broad option. This means whenever someone searches for a combination of words that include one of your keywords, your ad will show.

By running a test campaign for a week or two and spending a little bit of cash, you can cut your keyword research time in half and actually raise your marketing results as well. As people search and click your ads, you can tell exactly what SPECIFIC keyword terms (long-tail or short) will attract you the most business for the least amount of money. Once you let the campaign run a while, you can start building a more detailed campaign, and eventually get rid of the “broad” match option and instead spend your ad money on a long list of exact keywords.

Keyword research can sound daunting, especially for newcomers, but practice makes perfect, and this tip can wind up saving you a lot of trouble and time. In the long run, it should also help you target your keywords to your audience better, get you higher conversion rates and hopefully save some money. It’s always important to try something for yourself before you rule it out entirely!

Choosing your AdSense Ad Formats

by Carlos de la Crois

When choosing adsense for your website one of the things you will need to know is the right ad format. Not al formats convert the same or even work on your site. The adsense ads are best dominated by testing and learning from trial and error. Ad formats depend on the placement on your website

The Leaderboard ad format is quite popular. It is 728 X 90 in size and sits atop your webpage. As many as four ads fit nicely inside the leaderboard and the ads are arranged from left to right. This can be an attractive layout and will fit with almost any website format.

If you want to put banner type ads on your site you should pick the 468 x 60 banner with 2 ads in it. This type of banner can be used very effectively on top of content or below it. The half banner only shows 1 ad and can be used everywhere on your site. Its size is 234 x 60 pixels. However if you want to go for a more vertical layout of your ads the 120 x 240 pixels vertical banner may be the one you are looking for

For small ads, place the Button ad format on your website. This format is a 125 X 125 square and holds a single AdSense ad. This can be the perfect showcase piece for an ad, especially when formatted with a background color.

If you need ads to be shown on one or either side of your content a skyscraper holding 3 or 4 ads can be the solution. The skyscraper was specificaly designed for this purpose and its format is 120 x 600 pixels. If you would like to have more space for ads choose the 160 x 600 wide sky scraper because this one can hold 5 ads

The Small Rectange is 180 X 150 and holds one AdSense ad very well. The Medium Rectangle format allows three or four ads to be placed inside a 300 X 250 rectangle. The Large Rectangle, perfect for placing four ads inside, is 336 X 280. The Square measures 250 X 250 and holds up to three AdSense ads well.

If you use image-based Adsense ads, you can choose the Leader Board which you will find placed across the top of many websites. It measures 728 X 90. The Banner is a smaller ad that measure 468 X 60. The Sky Scraper and Wide Sky Scraper are also choices for use on the sides of a webpage. Or you can choose the Medium Rectangle format. All of these image ads hold a single image.

There are also various layouts for displaying Link Unit Adsense ads so that they will fit well into your website also. They can be stacked, lined up across the top or bottom and allow just as much variety as the text and image ads.

The articles are not long, and often contain useful information that you may not have known before. Perhaps the biggest benefit to this kind of marketing is the generation of new traffic to a website.

People are interested in new and interesting information and viewpoints not the same old same old. Your aim is to quickly grab a person’s attention.

If you have a greater degree of unique content, you will attract more of an audience for your website. Throughout the globe, computer users are doing internet searches to locate needed information. If one of your columns contains what they are looking for, you will be sure to see new visitors clicking through to your website.

Given the proliferation of article marketing on the Internet today, you will have to muster all of your creativity and writing skill in creating articles that will grab and hold the interest of readers. Be sure to keep them concise and pointed, and be mindful of the tactical placement of keywords. It will not do to have an article appear to be too wordy or seeded with a specific term too often, but you will need to slip the keywords in some place.

Why is it important to include these special words? The biggest reason for including these words is so that the article will flag the internet search engines, which in turn will increase your search engine ratings. This means that you can generate new traffic just by including your keywords in your article.

An additional way to make article marketing work for you is by allowing your text to be used on a foreign site in exchange for a link back to you. This is guaranteed to bring in new readers. Remember that the number of new eyes “trying out” your site will be directly proportional to the number of links out on the web. Ultimately, this will make you money, which is the ultimate goal.

In today’s business world article marketing can be a valuable resource for creating new business. You can utilize the versatility of article marketing to cover almost any topic. The full potential of this marketing technique works best if it is constantly changing and updated. Try to write up new articles daily to get the best results.

Article marketing is an exploding way to have fun while making money. If you think you have the interest to pursue this endeavor, remember that you must write articles that catch the reader’s interest. These should be unique articles that no one has read yet. These new fresh articles filled with unique content are a sure way to gain the attention of new readers. Remember this is not really difficult and you don’t have to expend a great deal of effort on it. Keep in mind that it is not static, however, and it must always be changing.
