Insurance Sales: Do You Hate to Prospect?

by Cheryl A. Clausen

You may be surprised to learn that even MDRT members don’t like prospecting, but they know it’s something they have to do. Instead of dreading prospecting you should be looking forward to it with excited because you have to have prospects to sell. You don’t look forward to prospecting because you want to be told “no”. A system for prospecting will help you to get good at it. Of course, a system is worthless if you won’t consistently implement it. Why you don’t like prospecting now, and how you could like prospecting?

In general there are two ways you can approach prospecting, face-to-face or direct response. Face-to-face prospecting involves: networking, cold calling via the telephone, cold calling via knocking on doors, and asking for referrals. When you think about prospecting you usually only ever think of the face-to-face options.

You have the greatest resistance to face-to-face prospecting because you run the risk of being told “no”. And you take that “no” personally. You don’t have a way to communicate the value of what you do in terms of what the people you want to work with want, so you get a lot of “nos”. Instead of prospecting face-to-face you could use direct response prospecting. That won’t prevent you from ever getting a “no”, but when you do it won’t feel personal and there’s a way to make a connection with that person that turns into a “yes” later. There are a number of things you can do to increase the likelihood of getting a “yes” response to your direct response prospecting.

To increase your prospecting success you have to have something that the people you want to work with want. One of the best ways to do this is to provide education based opportunities. Unfortunately, more people do this wrong than right.

When you think about prospecting think about giving. Even when what your prospects want doesn’t directly involve you there is an opportunity for you to connect with them by helping them to get it. And when you do that you increase your value to them by serving as the connecting point between what they want and how to get it.

Prospecting should be less about you being rejected, and more about filtering out the people who aren’t a good fit for you. Grow out of that “I can help everyone mentality”. It just makes your life more difficult. The only way to get business is to prospect, so you may as well learn how to do it right, and when you do you won’t hate prospecting any longer.

Dummys Can Earn A Part-Time Income From The Internet!

by Coach Hamilton

Every day there are thousands of people who get online searching for a way to produce a part-time income from the internet. As many people as there are searching for a way to find that extra income, there are even more who are willing to take their money to show them how.

Over the past couple of years I have done my fair share of research on finding true part-time income opportunities and I can tell you there are good ones if you know how to find them. If you are willing to do the research you can find them.

Here are some precautions that I use to dtermine whether I think a company is a possible opportunity for a part-time business income for me or guys and companies using a lot of hype looking to take my money.

Can you contact the owner of the business by phone or at least email? If you can, do you get an immediate response? If it takes more time than you are comforatble with then you need to consider how long it will take to get an answer to a question once you are in business with them.

Be careful of those who proclaim to help you make thousands of dollars every month, within the first few months, by simply following in their footsteps. While this sounds very encouraging, the skills and work needed to accomolish this is more than they advertise. There is a lot of skill involved in earning the incomes they are talking about and trust me when I tell you it is not likely the “newbie” can accomplish this, especially on a part-time basis.

People who are looking to make more money are also looking for a way to save more money therefore, they will never be convinced that your over-priced product is the greqatest thing out there. Companies that tell you they have the greatest product on the market and they will make you rich only do so to line their pockets.

Make sure you don’t have to spend hours per week on training calls that are full of nothing more than pep talks. Also, don’t feel you need to spend countless hours trying to learn the necessary skills to make an income on the internet. You don’t want a second full-time job do you?

I say no way to doing business with my friends and family. That is the quickest way to alienate yourself from them at family functions. If the company or person trying to recruit you is pushing this technique…get away fast!

Beware of those companies that tell you they will supply everything and all you have to do is promote the website they give you. Let me tell you right now that promoting that website is the hardest part. If you don’t know the ins and outs of promoting a website, you will fail.

These are the major precautions I consider when I look for a part-time income on the internet. There are others, based upon my experience but the bottom line is not to let hype take over your common sense. If it sounds too good to be true…it probably is. Take the advice of this Dummy!
